Biography
Micro Kenya is part of the Micro Africa group, a regionally managed Micro finance institution providing quality financial services to micro-entrepreneurs and low income individuals throughout Eastern Africa.

Micro Kenya was founded in September 2000 and was inspired by the success of the micro finance industry in the Indian sub-continent, South America and the rapid growth of the micro-lending industry in South Africa.

Micro Kenya was founded on and continues to strive towards the principle of finding the most effective way to implement micro finance services in Kenya. As a result, Micro Kenya has developed innovative and high quality operational methodologies that actively respond to the financial needs and cultural context of its client base.

Micro Kenya's vision is to be an industry leader in the provision of profitable, sustainable and customer focused financial services to lower income individuals and small and micro entrepreneurs in Kenya.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Micro Kenya offers a wide array of quality financial products to meet the needs and diversity of its client base. These include

1. Salary Loans

These are loans offered to salaried employees, whose companies have signed MOUs with Micro Kenya. The loan amounts range from Ksh 5000 to Ksh 300,000.

2. Group Loans

These are loans offered to members of a group. The groups have a minimum of 7 individuals and a maximum of 25 individuals. The groups are trained by our loan officers for a period of 6-8weeks before the first loans are disbursed.

The maximum loan amount in the first cycle of lending is Ksh 30,000.

3. MCC/SME Loans

Micro Corporate Credit (MCC) loans are offered to SMEs and individuals who run their own business. The maximum loan period is 12 months. Loans are extended to individuals based on a financial and personal assessment made by the Micro Kenya field staff. The loan approval and risk assessment process is focused on the MCC client’s cash flow and basic financial report analysis.

When extending MCC loans, the client is required to pledge collateral.

The SME loan is operated in the same fashion as the MCC loan except for higher loan amounts.

4. Microsoft Financing Option
This is a financing option that was jointly developed together with Microsoft and SDAL. Financing is offered to SMEs and companies who are either using pirated software or are using legal software illegally.

The client pays a 20% deposit and VAT as an upfront payment. We then finance the rest. The repayments are spreads out within a period of 3 to 12 months.

5. Maji Nyumbani( Water tank Loans)

Micro Kenya has partnered together with Kentainers to provide financing for the purchase of water tanks to aid in water harvesting especially in the rural arrears that have a rain shortfall every year. Micro Kenya pays Kentainers for the tanks upfront, Kentainers delivers the tanks at no cost to the customer at the nearest drop off point( either a nearby school, shopping center or Chiefs camp) and the customers payments are spread out from a period of 3 to 12 months.

6. LPO Financing

 This is financing offered to clients who have been awarded tenders to supply goods and services. They are short-term and are given for a maximum period of 2 months .
